After an early education and career in engineering and industrial design, Sandi Knell Tamny turned to fine art in the mid-1980's. Ms. Tamny creates sculptural works, prints and drawings, as well as commissioned works of Judaica. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work resides in the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., and in numerous private and institutional collections . Her 1992 sculptural suite titled The Chosen, based on the 500th anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, toured nationally and was seen by audiences in New York City, Miami Beach, Houston, Santa Cruz (California), Denver, Hartford (Connecticut), Boca Raton and Washington, D.C. A graduate of the Kent State University School of Art, Sandi is a former National Secretary / Treasurer for the Women's Caucus for Art (a group of 3700 visual arts professionals), which honored her in 1992 for her long-term contributions to the Women's Movement and the Arts. Sandi Knell Tamny makes her home and maintains her studio in New York City.
